Will Cavities Go Away?
Surely sometimes you have felt a toothache that then disappeared. So, you went looking for something strange; you looked in the mirror and found a cavity in your tooth!!! However, it didn’t hurt so, you forgot about it. But do you think that it will disappear on its own?
Cavities Development:

If these food scraps remain in the mouth for a long time without being removed, then the microorganisms will produce more acids. So, these acids will gradually disintegrate the hardest structure of the tooth called enamel.
Signs of a Cavity
First, a white spot will appear. This spot is the area of the tooth that is demineralized, though it can be re-mineralized with Fluorine. If this area continues to demineralize, then the cavity itself will form. This cavity could reach the dentin (the layer under the enamel) which could cause pain, or the pulp (where the vessels and nerves are) of the tooth, taking away its vitality.
Can Cavities Go Away?
Yes, they will, and for that, you must pay attention to the following tips.
- A visit to the dentist at least twice a year is essential. They will be able to diagnose incipient cavities, that is, white spots. Treatment is simple and will not hurt. It comprises applying a Fluorine Varnish that will help to re-mineralize the tooth, protecting it and making it resistant to the action of acids. The patient should begin a tooth brushing routine with fluoridated toothpaste with at least 1100 ppm of Fluoride at least two times a day. It will prevent the white spot from turning into a cavity.
- In the worst case, they will find a cavity, depending on its size and depth, they will restore it permanently, and as functional and aesthetic as possible. Although these restorations are permanent, they need constant maintenance by the dentist, so we must not forget to visit them.
What can we do to remove cavities at home?
Remember that we can keep the demineralization and re-mineralization process in balance with good brushing. As we mentioned, time is an important factor in the development of cavities, so brushing your teeth at least 20 minutes after each meal is essential.
